Moose Report Origin

The Moose report has been something that I started by just sending it to a few friends and my family, in the form of an update letter.  My brother knight and dear friend Tony Arecchi asked that I keep everyone up to speed with what was actually happening in the seminary.  So, I sent out the first couple in 2004 and then decided to give this letter a name.

My brother knights in Jackson New Jersey call me Moosey.  So, I called the report “The Moose Report.”  No, I have never actually seen a live moose whether in Maine or anywhere else for that matter, but since I was from Maine and moose live in the Maine woods – you get the connection.

Anyway, on my first visit to the Knights in Jackson, now back in either August of 1994 or 1995.  We had a good business meeting and then sat at the bar for a while.  As I scoped out this particular council and it membership, then residing in a remodeled chicken coop and assessed if this was the council I wanted to join – a member who will now remain nameless had a little pit to much wine to drink.  As the night progressed he began making moose calls.  Which if my memory serves me well - sounded more like dying quail calls?  It was so disgusting it was hilarious.  And of course as the night progressed they got consistently worse, but drew more laughter each time.

From that day on, the members either called me Christopher or Moosey.

I love the men of this council and their families very much.  They are active on so many different fronts that there is never a dull moment.  Over the course of the past years, we have laughed and cried together on many different occasions.  These men and their families, like the men and families in Maine and Delaware have committed themselves to the ideals of Fr. McGivney.

I am and will always be proud of the accomplishments of the Knights of Columbus, both locally and nationally.  This a good group of Catholic men and women that strive to help the church, community and families – while still maintaining the traditions and core values of Catholicism.

So, that’s the origin of the report.  The goal of this report remains the same – to keep all interested parties updated.  If you don’t wish to receive the report ust send me an email and I will take you of the mailing list – with no offense taken.

Otherwise, when you read it I would like you to return the favor and update me on what is going on in your world and let me know if there is anyone that needs prayers.  If someone is not receiving the report and you think they would like to simply tell them to email me and I will put them on the list.

Finally, this report is approved by the public relations department here at St. Mary’s Seminary and University.  I don’t wish to have the letter published publicly, as it is just my perspective on what is happening here at SMSU.  I take full responsibility for the content of the letter.
